A global pandemic, the 24/7 news cycle, social media, the economy, and a constant stream of information to you phone means that there is a lot going on. Always.
So sometimes, it’s important to take a step back and take a deep breath and not focus on anything for just a couple of minutes a day.
Leading experts say that mediation is a great way to manage emotions and feelings, calm the mind and help feelings of anxiety. With a lot going on in the world at the moment, it is now more than ever to try practice even 5 minutes a day.
Meditation doesn’t mean sitting amongst the forest with strange flute music playing, meditation is really just a couple of quiet minutes to yourself with no distractions and really focusing on the present moment.
So, how does one meditate?
- Get comfortable in a quiet spot – Sit comfortable and simply focus on your natural breath. Focus on inhaling into the belly and out slowly.
- Continue to focus on your breath – Keep your attention and just focus on in and out. Focus on just this moment in the present.
- Do this for 2 minutes. Simply focus on the breath, breathing deep into your stomach and slowly letting the breath out.
Now, take one last breath and open your eyes.
Taking 5 – 10 minutes like this daily is a great way to calm your thoughts, ease tension, and stop focusing on the outside world for just a moment. In times like this, it’s important to take time for yourself. While meditation isn’t a cure-all, it can certainly provide some much-needed space in your life.
