As the price guide and support catalogue are updated there new services being added for participants to engage with their funding. For participants living with a psychosocial disability, there has been a new NDIS support item added for Psychosocial Recovery Coach (also known as a recovery coach).
If a participant has funding in their plan, they can choose to work with a recovery coach that has either lived experience or with learned knowledge of psychosocial disability and mental health. This support has been made available in the 2020-2021 NDIS Price Guide, effective from 1 July 2020. As a participant you can choose to set a goal in your next plan to have this item included.
The Roles and Responsibilities of recovery coaches include:
- Developing a recovery enabling relationship
- Supports participants engagement with the NDIS
Coaching to increase recovery skills and personal capacity, including motivation, strengths, resilience and decision making - Supporting participants with their recovery planning
- Collaboration with the border system of supports
The recovery coach is a different service to Support Coordination and requires a different skillset. Learn more about recovery coaches by visiting the NDIS Mental Health explainer.
Recovery coaches should have tertiary qualifications in peer work or mental health (minimum Certificate IV in Mental Health Peer Work or Certificate IV in Mental Health) or equivalent training; and/or a minimum two years experience in mental health related work.
